BAND MEMBERS

Steve Pribyl, Uilleann Pipes and Flute

Steve Pribyl has been playing irish music for over forty years, since he first picked up a mandolin and a book of tunes at a San Francisco flea market in 1980. His musical career has also included stints playing tenor banjo and irish flute. He has since settled on uilleann pipes. He has had instruction from Seamus Egan, Mick Moloney, and Kevin Crawford, to name a few.

He was a member of Highland Sun and Buzzworld, and a founding member of Clumsy Lovers and Craicmore and Reaver Ship. Craicmore has gone on to become very successful and lived on without him. His bands have opened for The Young Dubliners and Altan, and have played at various festivals throughout southern California. He has been a member of the Southern California Uilleann Pipers Club since 2002, through which he has enjoyed tutelage from some of the world’s best uilleann pipers, including Mick O’Brien, David Power, Cillian Vallely, Jerry O’Sullivan, Paddy Keenan, Mikie Smyth and others. He often can be found at local Irish sessions in southern California. Craic and Bones, born in 2024, is his latest brainchild.
 

Dennis Doyle, Celtic Harp and Vocals

Dennis Doyle is a touring Celtic harpist, singer, and storyteller. His delightful program of traditional Irish harp music, stories, songs, bits of history and jokes have been performed all over North America, Japan and Ireland at festivals and feasts, highland games and renaissance fairs. Teachers and musicians run in his family which originally hails from County Wicklow.

His published material includes twelve recordings, four books and contributions to other artist's recordings. His television work includes performances on Murder, She Wrote, The Kids Are Alright and research and artwork material for programs on the History Channel. Over the years, he has served as the opening act for Clannad, the Dixie Chicks, and DeDannan. 

In addition, Dennis is a Gaelic scholar, a professor emeritus from Glendale Community College lecturing over forty years in English, Humanities and Irish History & Literature.  He holds a gold fainne in the Irish language and is on the local board of the Comhaltas Ceoltóiri Éireann.
 

Joyce Pan, Fiddle

Joyce Pan is a multi-genre violinist, playing classical, Celtic fiddling, and jazz with various groups around Los Angeles. She has studied with Jeremy Kittel and David Balakrishnan from Turtle Island Quartet as well as Henry Gronnier, Livia Sohn, and Barry Shiffman. Joyce is a software engineer and has worked at Dreamworks Animation and Google.

Joyce performs regularly around Los Angeles with various groups including a Celtic duo called Joyce & David, the Olde Ale Folks, and the Scottish Fiddlers of Los Angeles. She is on the Board for (and helps organize) the SoCal Chamber Music Workshop.


John Meador, Hurdy Gurdy

John Meador plays traditional folk music from Eastern Europe, France, and the Celtic Diaspora and is interested in generative electronic music with folk music themes.

He has been playing and performing in Southern California since the 1980’s and has performed with the Veselba Folk Orchestra, Avaz International Dance theater and the Karpatok Hungarian Dance company.

He studied Bulgarian and Macedonian kaval with Nikolay Doctorov and Milo Destanovski. He has also studied Traditional French Hurdy Gurdy with Patrick Bouffard, Gilles Chabente, Pierre Imbert, and Laurence Pinchmaille.

In addition, he has studied Modular Synthesis and Electronic Music with Sara Belle Reid and Matt Wright.

 

Xinqian Li, Guitar

Xinqian Li is a talented guitarist and composer, currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Studio Guitar at USC's Thornton School of Music. She is a lifetime member of Pi Kappa Lambda, and her work is rooted in traditional jazz, composing pieces for large ensembles that blend classic and contemporary styles.

Before turning her focus to jazz guitar, Xinqian spent years honing her skills in fingerstyle guitar, earning several prestigious awards. She has performed at notable events like the Big Apple Music Festival in New York and with the Jazz Big Band in Zhuhai, China. In 2021, she formed a swing septet with professors from the Sichuan Conservatory and participated in the China Swing Music Festival, while also releasing singles on NetEase Cloud Music.

Her numerous accolades include the USC Thornton Music Scholarship, a full scholarship to the Berklee Summer Program, and multiple gold medals in international competitions. She has also performed in well-known musicals like Hit The Wall and Tick, Tick...Boom!. Xinqian is an active performer in Los Angeles, where she works across a variety of genres, including jazz, rock, classical, and Irish music.
